Nathanael Rowe

I grew up in Long Beach, CA and graduated from Millikan High School in 2001. I then went to Hope International University in Fullerton where I graduated with a Bachelor of arts in Radio/TV/Film.

I am now a youth pastor at Parkcrest Lakewood Christian Church. I have been there since September of 2004, and I love my job.

I got my first bike on August 27th 2007, it was a 1982 Honda cm 450 e, and I now have a Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 which I plan on using for the trip.

    Hey Nathanael!
I hope you have an awesome ride. My 48 in 8 was pretty cool. I’ll give you a few tips that might help you out. They are things that really helped me out a lot.
    1. Make sure you leave very rested. I did not and it was a big problem.
    2. If you are really needing to make long distance in a day you should thinkg about adding an additional fuel tank. There are places where you can’t get gas for over 130 miles or longer.
    3. Buy or make your own trail mix to munch on while you are driving. Keeps up the energy and keeps your mind alert.
    4. Beef jerky is really good.
    5. Drink a lot of water even if you don’t think you are thirsty. Normal bike riding can dehydrate you. The wind sucks the water out of you somehow.
    6. If you get sleepy where it is hard to keep your eyes open – pull over and catch a power nap or just walk around for awhile and get blood circulating in your legs.
    7. Save up and get a GPS unit. This was really really helpful
    8. I can’t imagine not having cruise control. Got it at throttlemeister.com
    9. At that time of the year be prepared for the cold. I was not, and even in July I froze late at night.
    10. Check out ironbutt.com for just some great tips for long distance riding
    11. Give me a call if you want to chat. Email me and I will give you my number

    Ride safe!
    Mark
